Arihara Chizuru
1960 — Chizuru Arihara is born in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, to the family of a Japanese cultural attaché. Raised between Japanese and Cambodian cultures, he grows into a gentle, compassionate child whose curiosity and empathy quickly endear him to everyone around him.1963 — Chizuru meets Akira Harukawa, the infant son of close family friends. From their very first meeting, Akira becomes inseparable from him, eagerly reaching out, babbling excitedly, and trying to crawl into Chizuru's arms whenever he visits. What begins as an innocent childhood attachment soon becomes an inseparable friendship.1960s–1975 — Chizuru spends his childhood exploring Phnom Penh alongside Akira, whose admiration for him only deepens with each passing year. Tiny pebbles against Chizuru's bedroom window become a familiar invitation to sneak outside and play, while one day Akira entrusts him with an extraordinary secret: he is a dragon shapeshifter, capable of taking the form of a tiny white lizard. From then on, the little dragon can often be found hiding inside Chizuru's school collar, backpack, or jacket pocket simply to accompany him wherever he goes. Their parents quietly notice the unmistakable childhood crush but choose to let it blossom naturally.1975 — Their peaceful childhood comes to an abrupt end. As Cambodia descends into turmoil, both families fail to evacuate in time, and Chizuru and Akira are separated from their parents in the chaos.1975–1979 — Forced to survive on their own, Chizuru becomes Akira's unwavering shield, doing everything in his power to protect the younger boy despite the overwhelming circumstances surrounding them. The years they spend relying solely on one another forge a bond that neither time nor tragedy can ever break.1979 — The pair eventually escape Cambodia, reach a refugee camp on the Thai border, and are repatriated to Japan.Unable to forget what they witnessed, Chizuru vows to devote his life to preventing similar tragedies from happening again. He enrolls in the University of Tokyo to study political science with the dream of one day serving his country through public office. Determined to support that dream in his own way, Akira chooses a far darker path, joining the yakuza to protect Chizuru and his ideals from the shadows. However, most of their lore takes place during the 1980s, where their journey has only just begun, leaving much of their future unwritten for now.
Harukawa Akira
1962 — While traveling through Southeast Asia, Wong discovers a mysterious white egg. Recognizing that a rare creature would never be safe within the triad, he entrusts the egg to close friends living in Cambodia before continuing on his way.1963 — The egg hatches, revealing a young white dragon. Named Akira Harukawa, he is raised as the son of Wong's trusted friends. That same year, he meets Chizuru Arihara, the son of a Japanese cultural attaché. From the moment they meet, Akira becomes hopelessly attached, happily reaching for him, babbling excitedly, and insisting on being wherever Chizuru is.1960s–1975 — As Akira grows older, his childhood admiration gradually blossoms into love. Hardly a day passes without him finding an excuse to visit Chizuru, often tossing tiny pebbles at his bedroom window to lure him outside. Eventually, he reveals his true nature, showing Chizuru that he can transform into a tiny white lizard. Mochizuki Seishiro
1959 — Seishiro Mochizuki is born to a modest but loving family in Japan. The son of a Japanese mother and an Indian father, he grows up knowing hardship firsthand, yet never doubts the warmth and devotion of his parents.1974 — After graduating from junior high school, Seishiro leaves home to lessen the financial burden on his family. He finds work at a local carpenter's workshop, hoping to build an honest living through hard work.1975 — A severe back injury leaves him unable to continue working as a carpenter. With few opportunities remaining and determined not to become a burden to his parents, Seishiro reluctantly turns to the yakuza as a means of supporting himself.Despite entering the underworld out of necessity rather than ambition, Seishiro quickly earns a reputation for his charisma, quick decision-making, and natural ability to bring people together. His unwavering loyalty allows him to steadily climb the ranks.1977 — While accompanying his clan on a visit to Hong Kong to negotiate with local triads, Seishiro meets Wong. The two develop an easy rapport that soon grows into a casual friends-with-benefits relationship, one built as much on mutual amusement and trust as it is on attraction.1985 — By now serving as his patriarch's right-hand man, Seishiro finds himself at the center of a growing conflict. When his superior insists on provoking a far stronger rival clan, Seishiro openly argues against the decision, knowing such a war would end in catastrophe for their own organization. His warning is treated as insubordination. Rather than reconsider, the patriarch shoots him and leaves him for dead.Barely alive, Seishiro is discovered in a dumpster by Ryuu, whose intervention saves his life. During his recovery, Seishiro, Ryuu, and his loyal captain Akira quietly begin gathering allies to challenge the failing leadership. Their efforts culminate in a successful coup that topples the previous regime, allowing Seishiro to assume leadership as patriarch of the newly established Sunahara Alliance.Though now one of the underworld's rising figures, Seishiro remains guided less by conquest than by his determination to protect those who have placed their faith in him. His story, like those of the people closest to him, is primarily set during the 1980s, with many future chapters still waiting to be written.
Wong Gau
Technically he's a character from the Hong Kong movie Twilight Of The Warriors: Walled In, but I have changed his story a lot, drawing from the comic, the movie, Weibo articles and my own lore, so it felt like he deserved his own entry 😊

After selling a sacred scripture to finance a gambling spree, he is promptly expelled from the monastery—a story he still recounts with suspiciously little remorse.Over the years, Wong drifts through countless adventures, eventually finding himself among the Hong Kong triads. Never one to stay out of trouble for long, he quickly finds new opportunities—and new fun—waiting for him.
Sunagawa Ryūsei
1968 — Ryuu is born in Kobe's Chinatown to a woman working in the city's red-light district. Growing up in extreme poverty, he spends much of his childhood surrounded by instability, neglect, and circumstances far beyond any child's control. Having been raised almost exclusively within the local Chinese community, he speaks very little Japanese until reaching junior high school.1983 — After graduating from junior high school at the age of fifteen, Ryuu finds himself with few opportunities to build a stable future. Out of necessity rather than ambition, he joins a local yakuza clan, hoping to carve out a life for himself.1985 — While taking out the trash behind his clan's headquarters, Ryuu discovers a gravely wounded Seishiro Mochizuki, abandoned in a dumpster after being shot. Refusing to leave him behind, Ryuu carries him back to the clan's headquarters, an act that ultimately saves Seishiro's life.As Seishiro recovers, the two form a fast and enduring friendship. Ryuu later becomes one of the key figures supporting the effort to overthrow Seishiro's former patriarch, helping pave the way for the establishment of the Mochizuki Family.After that, Seishiro considers Ryuu one of his dearest friends, while Akira—much to Ryuu's amusement—has taken to affectionately referring to him as a "lovely little imp."Later that same year, Ryuu meets Yoshi shortly after the latter joins his clan. Realizing that Yoshi has nowhere to call home, Ryuu casually invites him to move into his apartment, seeing it as nothing more than the natural thing to do. What begins as a simple act of kindness gradually grows into a bond neither of them quite knows how to define—at least not yet.
Sugawara Yoshirō

With remarkable natural talent and relentless determination, boxing soon becomes the center of his life.1983 — As a teenager, Yoshirō begins competing in national and international youth tournaments, spending long periods abroad. His growing success only deepens the rift with his father, who demands that he abandon his ambitions and return home. Yoshirō refuses, choosing to pursue the future he has worked so hard to build.1985 — On the eve of a major tournament, Yoshirō unknowingly becomes the victim of a scheme orchestrated by his own father. His drinking water is tampered with in an attempt to sabotage his performance and force him to abandon his boxing career. Instead, the excessive dosage causes him to lose control during the match, resulting in the death of his opponent.The subsequent investigation confirms that Yoshirō had been drugged, sparing him from criminal conviction. Even so, he is permanently barred from competitive boxing, bringing his lifelong dream to an abrupt and devastating end.With nothing left to return home to—and determined to uncover who orchestrated the betrayal that stole his future—Yoshirō runs away from his home and enters the yakuza, hoping the underworld will provide the answers that the law never could.Later that same year, he meets Ryuu.
